Clinical Psychologist Petek Batum Akgün (PhD) received her undergraduate (BA) and Developmental Psychology (MA) degrees from Koç University in Istanbul, Turkey. She completed her second MA and PhD degrees in Clinical Psychology from Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey. In 2012, she completed her doctoral dissertation titled “The Role of Perceived Parenting Styles, Metacognitive Beliefs, Obsessive Beliefs and Thought Control Strategies in Predicting Obsessive Compulsive Symptoms: Test of a Metacognitive Model” and received her doctorate in clinical psychology. She has published her thesis studies as research articles in academically approved journals.
During her graduate studies she completed her clinical internship in Child and Adult Psychiatry Departments of Hacettepe University. After her graduation from the PhD program, she has taught several clinical psychology and adolescent psychology courses at Koc University, Okan University, Yeditepe University, and Sabanci University. She has worked as a clinical psychologist in Sabancı University’s Psychotherapy and Psychological Services unit between 2010-2020. She has also worked in various psychological counseling centers, including Korto Psychology.
In addition to the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Schema Therapy trainings she received during her graduate education, she completed EMDR 1st and 2nd level trainings. She has received professional trainings in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy given by David A. Clark and Dr. Christine A. Padesky. Dr. Batum Akgun is an ISST approved advanced level certified Schema Therapist who has completed the basic training and clinical supervision requirements given by the International Society for Schema Therapy (ISST). She continues her psychotherapy studies at Inventa Psychology, of which she is the founder.
